This month sees the ringing in of the Year of the Tiger, and to celebrate, we take a look at global design but with a Chinese focus. Destinations journeys to Beijing, a year and a half after the 2008 Summer Olympics – an event which saw a spate of architectural wonders emerge – to find out if the capital city still has its buzz. Going south, in Design Scene, we venture to sister city Singapore to experience the newly opened Klapsons. Created by William Sawaya of Sawaya & Moroni, this new designer digs, with its out-of-this-world style, aims to break new ground in the Lion City’s hotel scene.

Also, turn to our Homes section, where you’ll discover a glamorous bachelorette pad in Shanghai, the design of which was inspired by the city’s colourful history. In Creative Thinking, we chat with Lao Jianhua – a prolific designer that’s making a splash in the international design scene – and discover that this up-and-coming talent still proudly looks back to his native hometown of Shaoxing for inspiration.

From the Home Journal team, we wish you a healthy and prosperous Chinese New Year.
